GCY: What is your line of work?
MAC: I am a beauty expert that shares tips and tricks on youtube.com/glamatytv I launched Glamaty Caribbean mineral based, paraben free and animal cruelty free lip glosses during 2015 christmas holidays and I am the co-owner of Michelle’s glamour salon with specialization in hair styling, eyelash extensions and makeup
GCY: What made you choose this line of work?
MAC: My mother opened up the salon when I was 1 year old, and I became actively involved in it after college. It was a natural transition because I have so much knowledge from a lifetime of trial and error.
GCY: How long have you been doing this?
MAC: My entire life I’ve been in the beauty business due to assisting my mom during busy days. I have been fully involved for almost 2 years.
GCY: What inspires you to continue this work?
MAC: I love helping people feel and look beautiful. My clients are my biggest inspiration.
GCY: What are some recent (or the last) projects you’re working on?
MAC: I am currently expanding the Glamaty collection with more easy to use beauty products for the every day woman. We will be available in several retail locations and online in 2016
GCY: Where do you see yourself in the next five years?
MAC: I see myself as the CEO of Glamaty while working on our product line and one-of-a kind locations
GCY: Why do you think someone should choose your company versus the competition?
MAC: I believe we are in our own lane. Everything isn’t for every body. At Michelle’s Glamour Salon we have a great sense of pride in being the longest established salon on Sint Maarten that has grown into a full-service experience with top quality service our clients can trust. We understand the importance of time management, hygiene and creativity. With Glamaty, the fact that we are mineral based eliminates many beauty concerns. There are no worries of our products causing irritation, dryness or lack of performance. I’ve used plenty brands in my life, I know what it takes for a product to work properly.
GCY: What words of inspiration do you have for someone trying to establish themselves?
MAC: I would recommend solid advice versus inspiration. Anyone can find inspiration anywhere, it’s advice that new entrepreneurs lack the most. In order to establish yourself you must determine your WHY. Be very clear on why you are doing what you choose. There must be a profound sense of purpose behind it because your WHY will get you through the hard times. I also recommend you take it serious from the very beginning. The last thing you want is for a potential client to walk away because you appeared to be an amateur. Lastly, be professional at all times.Even if you are doing business with friends or family, stick to your policies. If a deal doesn’t work out, gracefully remove yourself. Word gets around fast. I have had people book me without ever seeing my portfolio because they heard I was professional. Clients are willing to pay for peace of mind that you will get the job done without any extra drama.
GCY: What’s your life motto?
MAC: “Querer es poder” is what my mom always told me when I was in school. It means, if you want to, you’ll get it done. Those simple words have shaped my mindset into believing no dream is impossible. Now I encourage everyone I know to push harder because when you truly want something done, you do what it takes, when you don’t find it important, you come up with excuses.
GCY: How would you like your work to be remembered?
MAC: I would like to be remembered as a strong and intelligent woman that changed the way the world defines beauty. I would like my work be remembered as one of the greatest inspirations for young women that have to start from the bottom. I was never born with a way, but I was persistent to find my will.
GCY: Would you like to leave any additional comments?
MAC: Sometimes women get caught up in taking care of everyone else except themselves. That has to change. We cannot be our best selves if we do not take care of ourselves first. Part of taking care of yourself is by feeling good. There is no medication in the world for a good mood. And what sets that good mood is looking in the mirror and feeling confident. It’s the little things like makeup, hair and being pampered once a week at the salon that makes the big difference. Take pride in your appearance and your world will become brighter. People will treat you more nice, your mood will be pleasant and your loved ones will enjoy your presence. Every woman has the right to feel beautiful every single day.
